Men's Competitive

Floor
Floor is a dynamic event where athletes show incredible tumbling skills (forward and backwards) and also work to show balance, strength and flexibility in a fluid routine. Men will include strength work to get to a handstand, plus often times pommel-horse skills done on the floor. Break-dance skills have even become common-place to add some drama to this exciting event.

Pommel Horse
Likely the most difficult of all men's apparatus, pommel horse is a real challenge even for the most accomplished athlete. The athlete propels their entire body weight, in a straight a line as possible in circular and pendular swings over the horse. The idea is to show the best line in a fast, controlled routine.

Rings
A graceful event that is comprised of swing and hold elements below, above and at the ring height. The strength of the athlete is shown through their control in transitions from skill to skill until they land their dismount.

Vault
An explosive sprint, a powerful bounce and the athlete launches himself from his hands into the air with the goal being to do as many flips and twists in the air and then land under control.

Parallel Bars
Two, head-height, parallel bars are the platform to show the judges just how well a guy can swing under, at and below the bars. Athletes work in and out of handstands throughout a routine with the odd stop to show their control and incredible strength.

High Bar
A single metal bar set at 8 & ½ feet above the floor is where this event takes place. Boys swing in many different variations to put together a smooth and rhythmic routine. Giants- basically handstands swung completely around the bar- comprise most of the routine, with high-flying elements being added as the gymnast progresses.

Women's Competitive

Vault
An explosive sprint, a powerful bounce and the athlete launches herself into the air from her hands with the goal being to do as many flips and twists in the air and then landing safely in control.

Uneven Bars
Bars is an event that requires a great deal of upper body strength and impeccable timing. Routines are comprised of amplified swings while transferring from 1 bar to the next without hesitation.

Balance Beam
A difficult event where acrobatic skills and dance elements are performed on a 4 inch wide surface, elevated 4 feet off of the floor.

Floor
Floor is a dynamic event where athletes show incredible tumbling skills (forward and backwards) and also show balance, strength and control in a fluid routine. Ladies perform their routines to music and include dance moves between their tumbling passes to showcase their artistry and flexibility.

Trampoline & Tumbling

Competitive Trampoline
Athletes who wish to compete at either the Provincial or National level in either individual and/or synchronized trampoline will enjoy this focused, skill-oriented training. Once the basic jumps and "escape route" skills are learned, athletes will progress to all of the basic "flips" and then work them into combinations as well. Trampoline training is very progressive and methodical and is very safe when taught correctly. Apollo has had a number of trampolinists go on to do other sports like aerial ski jumping as well as stunt work in Hollywood productions.

Double Mini-Tramp
Athletes who have good trampoline basics and lots of guts will enjoy the challenge of this "extreme" sport. Athletes will follow safe progressions to be able to do the necessary combinations needed to compete at the Provincial or National level.

Power Tumbling
Combine the speed of vault, the high-flying skills of trampoline and you have this exciting, dynamic sport. Power tumblers compete either within Ontario or Canada depending on their skill level. Athletes spring down a 36m long floor and do a series of 5-8 tumbling skills at incredible speeds. Huge end-skills make this sport a real pleasure to watch.

Trampoline & Tumbling Programs- all 3 in 1
Apollo offers a number of programs where an athlete can train to compete in 1 or preferable 2 or 3 of the trampoline sports. Each discipline transfers well to the others so the training itself is very complimentary. We encourage all of our T&T athletes to train and compete as many as possible.
